Winner of the "Best Show of the
Fringe" award by Theatre Weekly, Cadel: Lungs on Legs is a new one-man play that celebrates
merging sport and theatre on stage. It is
a biopic about the first ever Australian to win the Tour de France, Cadel Evans, and his journey
from childhood right up to the 2011 podium presentation in Paris.
Connor Delves performs this hour-long play wearing Cadel's original tour jerseys and riding Cadel's genuine
2011 tour-winning bike. During Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2025, Connor rode on average over 16 miles/27km per show every day (and 32 miles/54km
per
day for the final 4-show weekend).
Equipment
One wireless beltpack and headset. Two large televisions were used on either side of the stage to show real Tour de France footage and newspaper headlines about Cadel from the time, giving context of time and place within the story. Sound and video all controlled and operated within QLab, all lighting designed and programmed with an ETC Eos Nomad Puck.
